Active Quiz

This is a type of quiz designed to be used in face-to-face lessons, with a classroom full of computers/tablets/phones.

The teacher creates the quiz in advance - adding question bank questions from the Moodle question bank.  (This includes any question type available for Moodle)

The quiz can be set up to take the quiz in class groups (set up through the Moodle built in groups functionality).  Group attendance may also be used in order only give present group members the final grade.

During the lesson, the teacher starts the quiz. Students can now connect to this quiz. Once the teacher is satisfied that all students have connected to the quiz, they can click on "Start Quiz"

Depending on the question settings the question will end automatically, or will need to be ended via the instructor's "end question" button.  The instructor can review student responses in real time and re-poll the same question, go to the next question, or jump to any question set up for the session.

The teacher can, at a later date, go back through the results and, for each question, see exactly what answer each student gave.  Students will also be able to view their attempts based on the display options in the quiz settings.  Grades are also recorded based on the module settings for whether or not this particular quiz was assessed.

Question sharer

By default, teachers can only share questions with teachers in the same course as themselves and they can only save questions to the course they are currently working in.

This custom role of 'Question sharer' allows them to access and share questions at category or site level. The role must be created by an administrator and then given to selected teachers.

Question Creation Activity

The Question Creation Activity is a graded activity where students must create questions in the Moodle question bank. A teacher grades the questions.

The students get a grade for the questions they create.

You can specify a percentage of the grade to be automatically assigned depending on how many of the required questions the student creates and the rest of the grade awarded to the student to be dependent on the grade a teacher assigns for the questions created.

It is possible to choose that the activity is 100% automatic grading without any teacher manual grading, or 100% manually graded by teachers.

You can chose the question types students will be allowed to create and the number of questions required to complete the activity.

Studentquiz

StudentQuiz enables students to collaboratively create their own question pools within Moodle. Students can filter these questions into quizzes, and they can rate and comment on questions while working through the quizzes. StudentQuiz computes each students contribution and learning progress and compares this with the community. The created questions become part of the Moodle question bank and can be reused in other Moodle quizzes.

Students like questions to help them prepare for exams. However, it’s hard to provide enough questions for many self-assessments and exams.StudentQuiz enables students to collaboratively create their own question pools within Moodle. Even if an individual student contributes a few questions only, a large cohort could easily build up an extensive question pool.

In StudentQuiz, students can filter questions into quizzes, and they can rate and comment on questions while working through the quizzes. StudentQuiz collects usage data for each question and ranks students based on their contribution and performance within the quizzes. A personal learning assistance feature displays the individual progress and compares it with the community average. The created questions become part of the Moodle question bank and can be reused in other Moodle quizzes.

A teacher can configure:

·         whether students’ names are displayed or kept anonymous.

·         what questions types are allowed to be added to the pool.

·         the number of points assigned to questions contributed and answers given.

Essay autograde

The essay (autograde) question type allows an essay question response to be given a preliminary grade that is generated automatically based on one or more of the following characteristics of the response.

·         the number of words in the response

·         the number of characters in the response

·         the presence of one or more target phrases in the response

The automatic grade can be overridden by the teacher later.

Additionally, the teacher can set up grading bands that offer a non-linear grading scheme. In such a scheme, the grade awarded is that of the grading band in which the word/character count falls.

 Dialogue

Allows students or teachers to start two-way dialogue with one another. This is great for courses where frequent interaction and communication is a key component.

 Face-to-Face

Used to keep track of, manage, and remind learners of face-to-face training sessions which require advanced booking. Each session can be offered in one, or multiple sessions.

 Grade Me

Useful plugin for teachers and admin, that pulls together and displays all assignments, quizzes, essays, and file responses that still need to be graded. This plugin works with Moodle groups, so teachers only see assignments from students that belong to the same groups as them.

Mindmap

This Mindmap module allows teachers and students to create and save simple mindmaps from within moodle.

Media collection submissions

This plugin allows instructors/teachers to make media collections a gradeable activity by leveraging the assign activity.

Solution sheet

In Mathematics and other science subjects, coursework assignments are usually accompanied by model solutions which are released to students after the due date, and to markers beforehand. This plugin allows teachers to upload these solution sheets as files, e.g., in PDF format, to the Moodle assignment activity.

Solutions are initially hidden to students, and the teacher can release them either manually, or at a specified time after the due date. Futher, they can automatically be made unavailable after a configurable date.

Verify Certificate

This block helps course / site administrators to check / verify certificates based on the code printed on the certificate. It will list all the details for the certificates so it can be manually verified against the copy of the certificate. Requirement: The certificate module is required for this plugin to work. In order for this plugin to work you need to make sure the "Print Code" is set to Yes under the certificate 'Text options'.

Realtime Quiz

A multiple-choice quiz designed for use in a face-to-face lesson.
Each student receives each question at the same time with a time limit to answer it (default 30 seconds). In between each question the correct answer is displayed, along with the number of students giving each answer (and some statistics about the percentage class / individual correct answers). This allows each question to be discussed before moving on.

Teachers can review the answers, once the quiz is finished, to identify any areas that need to be covered again.

Recent improvements (2010) include:

Ability to add a picture to each question
More attractive question display
Easier question editing
Reduced network traffic & improved stability (particularly on wireless networks)
